The Rios Group provided SUE services for this TxDOT major highway improvement project that included widening in the San Antonio District I-35 NEX from Walters Street to FM 1103, including 410 North, 410 South and Loop 1604 East and West connections. TRG performed QLA SUE services from April 2019 to September 2019 and was tasked with providing services based on QLC/D and some QLB data. TRG worked with the prime firm as well as multiple sub-consultants to identify deficiencies with as-built, GIS, and One-Call locates. Although TRG was not originally scoped to provide QLB SUE services, TRG helped identify these deficiencies utilizing QL B procedures and proposed new QLA test hole locations in conflict areas. TRG excavated over 145 QLA test holes throughout the entire project. The team coordinated directly with TxDOT Inspectors for utilizing Truck Mounted Attenuators to provide safe work zones for our field crews while keeping the general public safe as well. Some of our work was performed in main lanes of the highway, so crews worked overnight to help minimize the impact on traffic, which in turn, enhanced our production with extended work hours. TRG coordinated directly with multiple pipeline owners to obtain onsite inspectors to be present while we performed our work.

IH-35 had multiple utility owners throughout this corridor. Some major pipeline crossings included: Sunoco, Flint Hills, SA Pipeline, CPS Energy and Enterprise. This project included most of the major communication/FOC providers: AT&T, CenturyLink, Conterra, GVTC, Logix, Spectrum, Zayo, FiberLight, Google Fiber and MCI/Verizon. Many large diameter water and sewer mains are owned by San Antonio Water System and at the northern end of the project there are multiple water crossings owned by City of Selma and City of Schertz.
