Corridor Program: East Riverside Drive
TRG provided Quality Level (QL) “D” through “A” SUE Services for this City of Austin Corridor Program project on East Riverside Drive. The project included design and construction of safety and mobility improvements that involved new and/or upgraded bicycle and pedestrian facilities, intermittent center median islands, intersection improvements, and new and/or upgraded traffic signals. TRG’s work was done in three phases. Phase one consisted of designating 30,000 LF of QL “B” alongside East Riverside Drive from IH 35 to East Ben White Boulevard at targeted locations. Utilities found consisted of potable water, reclaimed water, chilled water, natural gas/crude oil/refined product pipelines, communication duct banks, fiber optic, cable television, telephone, and electric. Phase two consisted of providing invert information on 137 storm sewer manholes and providing records of pipe size and material. Phase three included the excavation of seventy-five (75) QL “A” SUE test holes, also known as locating. QL “A” provides precise horizontal and vertical positioning of utilities within approx. 0.05 ft. Around 75% of the test holes required TRG to work within travel lanes, under traffic control. Traffic control was especially important to keep both TRG team members and the traveling public safe during SUE work.
